India has Joined Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence.

As all of we know the whole world is facing a huge pandemic, India has many issues internally as well as in border areas, but the Development of Science and Technology should not stop. This is the reason why India had joint the most important group on 15th June 2020, GPAI (Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence).

What is Artificial Intelligence? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing task that typically require human intelligence. AI is an interdisciplinary science with multiple approaches, but advancement in machine learning and deep learning are creating a paradigm shift in virtually every sector of tech industry.

Participating Countries: The European Union, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, The Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovenia, The United Kingdom, and The United States.

Functions of GPAI: 1. Bridge the gap between theory and practice on AI by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities. 2. An example would be looking at how AI could help societies respond to and recover from the Covid-19 crisis. 3. Bring together leading experts from industry, civil society, governments, and academia to conduct research and piolet projects on AI. 4. It will initially comprise four working groups focused on responsible AI, data governance, the future of work, and innovation and commercialization.

Organization: GPAI will be supported by Secretariat, to be hosted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, as well as by two Centers of Expertise – one each in Montreal (Canada) and Paris (France).

Recent Initiatives by India In the Field of AI: India has recently launched the National AI Strategy and National AI Portal and has also started leveraging AI across various sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare, e-commerce, finance, telecommunications, etc. The National AI Strategy was released in 2018 by NITI Aayog. It is termed “AI FOR ALL” as it is focused on leveraging AI for inclusive growth in the line with government policy of Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas.
