Recently, Iran announced its mega plan to build its Military Base in India Ocean Region. today we can say the Indian Ocean has become the most important ocean region of the world, which is not a nice thing for the region because that concludes to automatic Militarization. various countries start to deploy their Navies.
We know China has started its navies activities in the Indian Ocean by deploying Chinese submarines, other than this Indian Navy is also deployed here, France Navy, Australian Navy, US had deployed an almost large number of Navies personal with Aircraft Carrier.
And yes, as a new player Iran has also declared to build Military Base.
Iran’s Latest Announcement:
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) plans to establish a permanent Military Base in the Indian Ocean by March 2021. This was announced by IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri.
IRGC has been declared a terrorist organization by the USA, which results as the USA killed top IRGC Commander Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike on January 3, 2020.
Why is Iran Setting UP a Permanent Base in India Ocean:
The IRGC Navy Commander Stated that the decision to set up the base was taken due to repeated harassment faced by Iranian fishermen at the hand of pirates and foreign vessels in the India Ocean and the Sea of Oman. The commander warned that the IRGC will no longer allow such encroachments in the region.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy has so far dispatched two Naval flotillas to the Indian Ocean.
Iran has so far given no indication of where it intends to build the base. At present Iran’s Chabahar Port in the Gulf of Oman- which is used, among other activities for shipping goods to Afganistan – is the nearest base Tehran has to the Indian Ocean, although attempts to develop it into a major import-export terminal with India’s assistance have been hampered by US sanctions.
