A new strain of the H1N1 swine flu virus is spreading silently in workers on Pig Farms in China and should be “urgently” controlled to avoid another pandemic, a team of scientists says in a new study.
Scientists say New Strain of Swin Flu Virus is Spreading to Humans in China’s pig farms since 2016. Scientists working on a study of influenza virus among pigs from 2011 to 2018 in ten provinces of China, took more than 29,000 nasal swaps from slaughtered pigs. They also collected lung tissues fro farmed pigs that exhibited signs of any respiratory disease.
Through this surveillance, researchers isolated 179 swine flu virus from the sample, the majority of which belonged to the newly identified G4 strain.
“Will take measure to prevent any virus outbreak”, China on new influenza variant G4.
It is estimated that in the 2009 flu pandemic 11-21% of the then global population (of about 6.8 billion), or around 700 million to 1.4 billion people, contracted the illness-more in absolute terms than the Spanish Flu pandemic.
Actual fatalities ranged between 12,000 and 18,000. However, in a 2012 study, the CDC estimated more than 284,000 possible fatalities worldwide, with a range from 150,000 to 575,000.
G4 EA H1N1 flu virus can infect and reproduce in cells lining your lower respiratory tract. Tests also showed that any immunity humans gain from exposure to seasonal flu does not provide from G4.
